Useful Parenting Advice

Being a parent is not easy. It is a tough balancing act where parents could not be too strict or too lenient. The only goal of a parent is to raise beautiful children that will one day be responsible adults. But the road from childhood to adulthood is paved with roadblocks at every turn. Sometimes it is a big puzzle for parents when their angelic baby turns out to be a fractious toddler and progresses to become a teenage rebel. Reading books on good parenting, asking for advice from friends and family and if really needed, seeking assistance from the professionals will help. There are however, some general parenting guidelines that parents can follow that will make the job of parenting a little more stress-free.
Here are some of these parenting guidelines:

Make the child feel loved – The most troublesome child is a child who needs love most. Parents should never lose this perspective even at the height of a toddler’s tantrum or when faced with rebellion from a teenager. Making them feel loved is telling them that they are loved often, affectionately cuddling and hugging them at every opportunity and being constantly around for them.

Give children both quality and quantity time – Parents should relish the time spent with their children. At home, do things together – bake cookies and goodies together, play with them, read to them, watch home movies together; at school – be there for the PTA meetings, recitals, baseball or football practice and games; go out on family picnics, have fun, work, pray together.
Reward children for good behavior –Parents should show their appreciation for good behavior by rewarding them with simple and inexpensive things. Children will remember this and will try to be “good” since parents notice. Sometimes children misbehaved just so parents will notice them.

Involve children in family matters – Make them really feel that they are a part of the family. Involve them in decision making such as where to go for the next family outing, what to give Granny for her 80th birthday, what name to give the new baby and the like.
There are no hard and fast rules on parenting. But a step towards the right direction is to give children the love and affection they deserve.
